SYNOPSIS
The Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) in partnership with UNICEF invites young people to participate in the GhLA/UNICEF Advocacy Challenges.
This initiative aims to engage youth in writing opinion articles on key social issues. Starting from August 2024, a new advocacy theme will be released each quarter, providing young writers the opportunity to share their perspectives and insights. The best articles will be featured in prominent media outlets, including local newspapers, online portals, and the UNICEF and GhLA websites.
PURPOSE OF THE CHALLENGE
- To provide a platform for young voices to express their views on critical social issues.
- To foster a culture of advocacy and informed debate among young people.
- To promote research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.
- To highlight the perspectives of youth on matters that directly affect their lives and communities.
- To create opportunities for young writers to have their work published and recognized.

- Call for opinion papers - Get published in major newspapers, online platforms and on GhLA and UNICEF websites
APPLICATION GUIDELINES:
- Infographic - The competition is open to people from age 14 to 24 years.
- Call for opinion papers - A call for opinion papers will be posted on all social media platforms for submissions
- Submission - An evaluation panel will be set up to review submissions and select the best to be published on UNICEF and GhLA websites, and selected newspapers
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
- Theme Relevance - Articles must address the specific quarterly theme announced by GhLA/UNICEF.
- Length - Submissions should be between 600-800 words.
- Format - Articles must be typed, double-spaced, using a 12-point Times New Roman font. Submissions should be in either Microsoft Word or PDF format.
- Content -
- introduction - Clearly state your position on the theme.
- Body - Provide well-researched arguments, supported by evidence and examples.
- Conclusion - Summarize your main points and propose actionable solutions or calls to action.
- Originality - Submissions must be original and not previously published or AI generated.
- Language - English.
ELIGIBILITY:
- The competition is open to people from age 14 to 24 years.
- Third-party entry is not permitted.
- Contestant must be a resident of Ghana.
